Tutoring for GCSE success

We help your child to be successful in their subjects, giving them the confidence, encouragement and tailored tuition they require to achieve their GCSE exam result goals.

How do we do it?

  1. Initial assessment. There’s nothing to be worried about – we set simple tasks that take just 40-60 minutes. This shows us your child’s strengths, understanding of the curriculum and areas where they may need more support.
  2. Tailored leaning programme. We work with your child to establish their learning objectives, using these and their assessment results to create an individual tuition programme.
  3. Weekly tutoring. Sessions last 80 minutes and are held in small groups so your child can benefit from the tutor’s full attention.

Our approach paves the way for future success as well as helping children achieve their true potential in their GCSE exams.

How will extra tuition help my child with their GCSEs?

Tutoring will:

  • Build your child’s confidence. We keep tutoring groups small – children make friends and learn together. Our GCSE tutors are friendly and supportive, bringing out the best in every pupil.
  • Help your child achieve specific goals. These could be anything from moving up a set, to achieving a certain grade in their English, maths and science GCSE exams.
  • Lead to academic achievements. We provide high-quality, focused teaching that’s tailored to your child, helping them achieve the GCSE grades they deserve.
  • Provide a framework for success. Our sessions involve constructive learning, preparing your child for their exams. We give homework to complement the work set by your child’s school.

GCSE Tuition FAQs

How do I know my child needs a GCSE tutor?

Sometimes it’s difficult to really tell whether your son/daughter needs help with GCSE work. Teenage years are challenging for them and us.  Usually, they’re more concerned with talking to their friends, meeting up with them after school and/or holed up in their bedrooms to be too focused on whether schoolwork is an issue. They turn up to school each day so as far as they’re concerned, they are getting on with it, aren’t they?  So how do we find out if there is a problem? There are some signs that things are not going well and a monthly check-in to start with might just be the ticket. That monthly talk could include, looking at their planner for tell-tale signs; notes from teachers where no homework has been submitted, lateness to lessons and/or school, receiving detentions for them.  Negative comments about behaviour during lessons; talking, disrupting others, grades slipping, are all signs that all is not going well. I think the most important indicator of all is your gut feeling that all is not as it appears. Trust yourself!

When is the best time of year for my child to start GCSE tuition?

There isn’t a perfect time as every child is different. There is most certainly a best time to avoid seeking help and support and that’s in the latter stages of Year 11. Contacting a tutor to help 4-6 months before their exams are due is fine if they need a boost but if they’ve always struggled in a particular subject then likely, they will need support ideally from Year 9.

How will private GCSE tuition help my child?

There are so many ways that tuition will help your son or daughter. A change in behaviour is usually one of the first positive signs that we are heading in the right direction. They’re doing their homework from school without too much of a struggle and don’t need to be told to get on with it. They are more confident in their abilities to tackle work which will lead to an increase in self-esteem; they will know how to solve problems that before would have led to a meltdown or total withdrawal from things they used to like. Teachers will notice at school that their concentration and involvement during lessons has increased.
