Science Tuition: How We Tutor for Success

Science is a comprehensive and wide subject that requires students to be able to apply what they have learnt to the real world. As such we deal with one subject at a time and the sessions are tailored to individual needs through discussions with their Science teacher. Whether it’s Biology, Physics or Chemistry we approach the subject and delve into those topics within that subject they have really struggled with. We do this with a combination of approaches.

We are very fortunate to have one of the best Science Tutors around. Bongani has been with us for over a year now and can boast that he still has students with him who started at the same time as he did. Students tell me that they find his knowledge and way of delivering those areas within Biology, Chemistry or Physics really helpful and he has ensured that they are meeting their predicted targets long before they take their exams.

We don’t just deliver these to students at GCSE level, we cover KS3 as well. This is particularly important if your son/daugther already knows that they want to go into Science at A level and want to compete at being awarded a place at a top University.

All exam boards are covered and we work through exam papers, revision guides and carefully selected videos and various sites to reinforce learning and expand knowledge.

What age can my child start Science tuition?

We recommend that you start taking Science seriously from Year 9 onwards.  You need to take into consideration :- are they going to need Science for their next step on their academic journey? Do they want to be a Midwife, Doctor, Nurse, Scientist and do they want to get into a good university to meet those career choices?

What exams can Science tutors prepare my child for?
KS3GCSEs, and A Levels.
How do I know my child needs a Science tutor?
We normally recommend that you start thinking about getting a science tutor at the start of Year 8.  Make sure they’re a qualified teacher!  Your child will have had a couple of years exploration into the world of science and will soon know if it’s something they are keen to learn more about or whether it’s a real struggle.  Half termly tests will be a good way of seeing if they are understanding what they are being taught.  Most children find that Chemistry is the real challenge and if they’ve struggled to understand this subject throughout Year 7 and 8 when they come to their GCSE years they will be struggling to catch up and work within the subject at a more in-depth level.

My daughter attended the Summer School in 2014. She had a successful experience and so I continued as she was so geared up and ready for the new academic school term I wanted her to keep that focus. Here are some of the areas I think I have seen an improvement:

• I noticed that her confidence levels have picked up.

• That she’s looking for more difficult tasks within maths.

• Due a maths exam at school in November so I will be able to really judge how Raven is progressing.

• I think Leeds Tuition Centre is a very non-pressurised environment way of learning and Raven is enjoying the lessons.

• Friendly staff

• Everything is student focused.

I am looking forward to seeing both elements come together; both her school work at what she has been learning at Leeds Tuition Centre.
