Why is SATs tuition important?

The national curriculum tests known at SATs are largely used to benchmark schools, showing how well they are teaching their students.

SATs results are also used to predict the academic outcomes that pupils are expected to achieve for maths, Science and English when they begin their GCSEs. This means that SATs results are important to pupils as individuals, not just to the school, ensuring children are on track to success. Plus, good SATs results will boost your child’s confidence ahead of the important exams that will shape their futures.

Private SATs tutoring service: the next best thing to Private School

We tutor children in a friendly yet results-driven environment, creating a classroom experience similar to that of a private school. This is how we set our pupils up for success in their SATs and their further education:

  1. Initial assessment. This takes place in a ‘non-test’ environment. There’s nothing to be stressed about – the assessment will simply show us the level your child is working at so we have a starting point.
  2. We tailor a learning plan to each child, focusing on the core areas they will be assessed on in their SATs exams. These are English reading, English grammar, punctuation, spelling, comprehension and maths.
  3. Weekly tutoring sessions. Our sessions last 80 minutes. Your child will learn within a small group, benefiting from the supportive environment as well as individual help from the tutor.

Our approach helps children achieve the SATs results they deserve, as well as paving the way for future academic success.

SATs FAQs

How do I know my child needs private SATs tuition?

Have they been achieving ‘below target’ for the last couple of years? If the answer is yes, then they will need support. Having a private tutor work with them through past exam papers whilst dealing with gaps in their knowledge is the first taste of what preparation for GCSE exam work will be like. They will learn how to approach and prepare the reading material before answering questions. They will learn how to breakdown questions in both English and maths to ensure that they are understanding what is required before answering them.

What age can my child start SATs tuition?

Usually, children start SAT preparation at the beginning of Year 6. However, this is very much dependent upon what their overall academic ability is. If they have been struggling in school for several years, it may not be appropriate to start SATs preparation in Year 6 and they may need to attend sooner. An in-depth assessment will soon clear up whether your child needs support the year before the SATs are to be taken.

Quote“My son scored very high marks in Year 6 SATs (over 110) in each subject. My son has continued to like attending the centre and now this is the third year (he is in Year 8). As parents we love the honest unbiased feedback we get from the teachers, the fact that kids feel challenged to do better and we will continue to support our son in attending Leeds Tuition Centre.”
